Applying for UNESCO Global Geopark status

Territories wishing to attain UNESCO Global Geopark status should, in the first instance, submit an expression of interest through the National Geoparks Committee of the country in which they are situated. If there is no such committee within that country then submission should be made through the appropriate official channel, as set out at the UNESCO Geoparks website[1].

It should be remembered that aspiring territories should be operating as Geoparks for at least one year before the expression of interest is submitted to UNESCO. This Toolkit is designed to help you and your Geopark get all the necessary management structures in place, or identify the topics where you need to carry out additional work or provide extra supporting material, to aid the preparation of your submission document.
